A growing need.
Over the last 5 years, the Picton United Church Food Bank saw visits more than double, to just over 4,800 in 2024.
The sad reality is that, despite our apparent prosperity, 25.9% of people in Prince Edward County are food insecure – the second worst highest rate in Ontario. This amounts to approximately 6,000 individuals. Of these, 1,500 access the services of local food banks, while 4,500 do not and presumably go without.
Luckily, many in our community are determined to help and we are thankful for the support we receive from many individuals, community groups and businesses in our community, including local grocery stores and their customers.
On February 28, 2026, Picton Food Bank supporters are walking to ensure everyone in our community has access to ample, healthy food.
